Ashton Kutcher and Reese Witherspoon would make quite the couple if they weren’t both in committed relationships. That’s what most of America thought until Kutcher and Witherspoon appeared on the red carpet for the premiere of their movie, Your Place or Mine. During their appearance, Witherspoon and Kutcher could not have lacked more chemistry – and it seems like Kutcher is to blame!
Kutcher refused to put his arm around Witherspoon’s shoulders despite the fact that they are both starring in a romantic comedy. Despite acting like it for the cameras, they didn’t seem to know how to act like a couple while on the red carpet.
“I have been laughing all day at the Your Place or Mine premiere/press photos,” one person tweeted.
“Actors playing romantic leads always need to go to the Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain’s school of promotion cause… what is this,” said another.
And as Kutcher tells it, it has to do with something he kept thinking about in the back of his mind. He didn’t want to be accused of having an affair with Witherspoon by acting too hot and heavy.
Eventually, Ashton Kutcher’s infamous photos with Reese Witherspoon revved up so much attention that Kutcher’s own wife, Mila Kunis, decided to weigh in on the conversation and make a splash all her own.
Kutcher revealed Kunis’s statement during an episode of the Chicks in the Office podcast. Kutcher explained that on February 6, 2023, “My wife called me. She texted Reese and me together and said, ‘Guys, you gotta, like, act like you like each other.’”
Kutcher didn’t stop there. He wanted to give the podcast audience even more juicy details about his thinking. Apparently, he was holding back from putting his arm around Reese Witherspoon – not because he didn’t find her attractive. But because he cannot help but know how attractive they look together, he was worried that people would mistake their Hollywood magic for something more sinister – an extramarital love affair between costars.
Kutcher let it all hang out during his conversation with the Chicks in the Office podcast.
“Here’s the thing: If I put my arm around her and was, like, all friendly with her, I’d be having an affair with her. The rumor would be that I’m having an affair with her,” he suggested.
That’s Kutcher explaining why he refused to put his arm around Witherspoon during their red carpet appearance.
“If I stand next to her and I put my hands in my pockets, so there’s no chance that, like, that could be the rumor, the rumor is we don’t like each other,” he added.
Kutcher didn’t mean to make it look awkward between them. He just didn’t want there to be rumors spread that would put trust in his marriage in question.
In fact, Kutcher said that he and Reese Witherspoon are “really good friends.”
